Abstract

This study focused on the implementation of Jigsaw Techniques in Teaching Reading at the 8th grade of SMPIT Aulady Tangerang Selatan. There were some steps for applying jigsaw technique according the Aronson (1971). It discussed what were materials used and how it implemented. In terms of whether or not jigsaw technique was implemented appropriately according to the Aronson’s theory. The data were collected through observation and interview and analyzed qualitatively. The writer found that the teacher delivered the recent or popular topic to get the student attention. Recent topic is the topic which was being talked by the people around them. Hence, students involved themselves in discussing it. Discussing the popular topic in the Jigsaw class made the students enjoyed in learning activities. The teacher is generally following the steps of jigsaw technique implementation, However, there was a core step skipped. It is to form expert groups. This step encourages students to become the expert about their own text. After joining in their expert group, students will confidently share information they got in their home group. Thus, the result of the study is in the 8th grade of SMPIT Aulady Tangerang Selatan, jigsaw technique is not implemented exactly based on the theory developed by Aronson.
