Abstract

This study presents a comprehension of pragmatic analysis which is limited to analyze the use of politeness strategies in dialogues of a literary work film entitled “The Spy Next Door”. The goals of this study are to identify the politeness strategies and to know how those strategies are applied in the dialogues of that film. Besides, the writer would like to more deeply learn about politeness in order to avoid impoliteness in an interaction. Subsequently, the writer uses qualitative method to describe this study. Then, he uses a theory from Brown and Levinson in Mulyono (2012:20) in analyzing the data. As the result, the politeness strategies which are found in the dialogues of that film are bald on record, positive politeness, negative politeness, and off record.
