Abstract

The goal of study is to find objective condition of the correlation between students’ vocabulary mastery and their reading comprehension which was observed and analyzed of students’ grade VII at SMP TECHNOSA SERPONG UTARA. The research approach used in this thesis is the quantitative approach while the technique used is the technique of correlation. Samples taken in this study is a number of 17 respondents out of a total population of 17 students of grade VII in SMP TECHNOSA SERPONG UTARA. Moreover, the purpose of this study is also to get empirical data and information of the research and to obtain the data and information of the research, The writer uses form of multiple choice tests on a variable X (Vocabulary mastery) and variable Y(Reading skill) and on each variable the researcher conducts a test of reliability of the instrument. In the test requirements analysis researcher does correlation and coeffiency technique and correlational coeffiency significance. The last stage in this study is hypothesis testing research, namely the existence of a positive and significant correlation between vocabulary mastery and students’ reading skill. After doing research and analyze data, obtained as a result of calculation = rxy 0.678 is at the range 0.61 and 0.80 (on the interpretation of the table) which indicates the existence of a positive correlation between variable X (Vocabulary mastery) and variable Y ( Reading skill) is high. After significance test it is found that T- count of 9.893 and T table of 0.482 so Th > Tb. Because T count is higher, then the alternative hypothesis (Ha) is received, whereas null hypothesis (Ho) is rejected. Thus it can be conclude that students’ vocabulary mastery is associated positively and significantly with students’ reading skill. Keywords : Correlation, Vocabulary Mastery, Reading Comprehension
