Abstract

This study focuses on finding the imagery used in Thannha Lai book: Inside Out & Back Again. The writer analyzed the imagery from the 34 poems in the first part of the poetry book. The book itself has 4 parts and this study was limited to only the first part. The method used in this research is descriptive qualitative method. The theory used in this study is based on Burton’s theory that divides imagery into six types which are sound, sight, taste, smell, touch and movement or kinaesthetic. As the result, the writer found that the Movement imagery or Kinaesthetic imagery as the most dominant imagery with total of 66 data in the poetry. And then followed by Sight imagery (54 data), sound imagery (16 data), touch imagery (16 data), taste imagery (10 data), and smell imagery (3 data).
