Abstract

The study aims to analyze the main character in Christmas Carol novella by using the theory from DiYanni (2004). Qualitative research method was used to reveal the attitude and characteristics of the main character shown in this novella. The results show that there are 12 characteristics of Scrooge as the main character. Those characteristic are arrogant, stingy, stubborn, smart, coward, and generous. The most common one is arrogant that can be found three times in the novella. After that, it is followed by stingy, stubborn, coward, and generous which each of them is found two times in the novella. The last one is smart which is found in only once in the novella.
