Abstract
The analysis in this study is a research about translation shift from Indonesian into English in Negeri 5 Menara novel by Ahmad Fuadi and its translated version The Land of Five Towers by Angie Kilbane. The theory is used in this study is Catford theory (1978) focus on category shift, they are structure shift, class shift, unit shift and intra-system shift. This study uses qualitative method. The data were collected and identified based on some steps, the first, by reading both of novel, then listing the translation shift that happen. Secondly, categorizing the data to be analyzed. The result of the research concluded, the translation shift happened because between Indonesian and English has different rules and styles like structure, grammar and tenses. For example, Indonesian does not have tenses for past, present and future meanwhile English does. Keyword : Translation, Translation Shift, Novel, Linguistic
