Abstract

The study entitled “DAVID EBERSOFF'S THE DANISH GIRL: FRAMING GENDER IDENTITY” was conducted in a qualitative approach to analyze gender identity and gender personality through the narrative elements in The Danish Girl novel. The goal of this study is to analyze how gender identity is constructed and how sexual stage development influences gender personality, Einar Wegner using the psychosexual theory of stage of development by Sigmund Freud (1940) and the theory of basic gender identity by Stoller (1984 ). The results of this study showed that Einar Wegner is a man who crosses his gender identity because of the lack of sexual stage development and also the biological factor, parenthood factor and environmental factor influence Einar’s gender personality construction.
