Abstract

This research aims to find out the use of code mixing and code switching in Can You Keep A Secret Sophie Kinsella’s novel. This research applies descriptive qualitative method. This study investigates the types of code mixing and code switching which occur in the dialogues spoken by characters. The aims of this study are: (1) To describes the forms of Bahasa Indonesian – English code mixing used the characters in the novel (2) To investigate the reasons why code mixing and code switching used in the novel. The data are analyzed using Stockwel’s theory of types and reasons of code mixing and code switching. The result of this study shows that most characters use Intrasentential switching in their conversation. Key words: Code Mixing, Code Switching, Novel, Can You Keep A Secret.
