Abstract

This analysis aims to describe the study about how the conflict happened in the two main characters “Bruno and Shmuel” and also to explain the characteristic of them in John Boyne’s novel “The Boy in The Striped Pajamas”. Futhermore, The method of this study used qualitative method with analyzing the character and conflict of the novel. Based on the qualitative method in which the data should be put in the analysis; therefore, the data of the analysis conflict and characteristic are collected by finding and evidence from the dialogues and some quotations in the novel. The writer used a conflict theory from Stanford, while to analyze the charachter, Gordon and Kuehner theory is used by the writer to support this study. In addition, The conflicts in this novel refer to child’s innocence who are fight for their right to play together without any interference in their life. Therefore, the two main characters were really face how to get their freedom to play with and spent their time as a common child. Based on the result from the data finding, it can be conluded that the conflict divided into two parts such as external and internal conflict. Furthermore, character of Bruno is kind of dynamis character while Shmuel is kind of statis character.
