Abstract
The aim of this study is to analyze the gender stereotypes and performativity through the main female character in the Norwegian Wood Novel by Haruki Murakami. The method used on this study is qualitative approach by describing and analyzing the character in the novel. The theory used is gender stereotypes and performativity by Judith Butler. Gender stereotypes phenomena found in this novel is the stereotypical of women who always have to stay in feminine look. Thus, the performativity evidences by the female character break off those traditional gender stereotypes. However, Kobayashi Midori as the main female character did the masculine traits such as rebel, wild, and tough.
