Abstract

The aim of this study is to analyze the onomatopoeic words that are found in Witch & Wizard comic by James Patterson. This study is a part of linguistics, because it discusses about one of the varieties of morphology that is Onomatopoeia. Onomatopoeia is a word that imitates the sound it represents. This study was conducted to find out Onomatopoeic Words found in Witch & Wizard comic, with the detail of their types, their functions, and the contextual meaning. To support this study the writer describes the types based on Krishnamurti 2013 theory, explains the functions based on Elizabeth 2008 theory, and analyzes the contextual meaning based on Widdowson 1971 theory which indicates the discussion of Onomatopoeic Words. The approach used in this study was qualitative method to analyze all data in Witch & Wizard comic. The contextual meaning of Onomatopoeic Words in Witch & Wizard comic are sometimes different between the original which is taken the meaning from dictionary and the meaning contextually. Furthermore, the results there are 50 of Onomatopoeic Words found, and analyzed. Finally, Non-Reduplicated Onomatopoeia is the most dominant types of Onomatopoeic Words found in Witch & Wizard comic. The tabel data are found 20 data of Reduplicated Onomatopoeia and 30 data of Non-Reduplicated Onomatopoeia.
