Abstract

The aim of this study is to analyze John Lennon songs by using Political Unconscious Approach. This study is held, to know how John Lennon uses songs as medium to disseminate his utopia about peace in all around the world that is described in his songs lyric. The writer used political unconscious perspective by Fredric Jameson to analyze John Lennon songs lyric. In 1969, against the backdrop of the Vietnam War, John Lennon instigated a series of idiosyncratic artistic events designed to spread a universal message of peace. Using the song as his medium to give all the people messages of peacefulness and stop the war. Give peace a chance (1969), working class hero(1970), war is over (1971), Power to the people (1971) and Imagine (1971) by John Lennon categorized as Political songs because these song lyric contained about John Lennon Ideology about peace and stop the war in all around the world. John was created these songs when warefare in Vietnam occur, The Vietnam War was one of the most controversial political issues in the 1960s and 1970s.
