Abstract

This study aims to reveal the symptoms of anxiety disorder experienced by the main character named Pipa, and how Pipa deals with them. The object of this research is a novel entitled A Good Girl's Guide to Murders (2019) by Holly Jackson. This research uses Greenberger & Padesky's (2016) theory as a guide. Descriptive- qualitative is used in this study as a method. The researcher focuses on the symptoms of anxiety disorder experienced by Pipa as she carries out her mission to uncover the murder case in Little Kilton. The analysis of this research shows two important things: First, there are four symptoms of anxiety disorder experienced by Pipa, including physical, thought, mood, and behavioral symptoms. Second, Pipa's way of dealing with anxiety disorders uses three methods: to manage her breathing, acceptance, and mindfulness. The results of this study show that Pipa no longer experiences symptoms of anxiety disorder because she can be calm and relieved after finding the real killer in Little Kilton.
