Abstract

The aim of this study is to discuss the process of teaching speaking through dialogues. Therefore, this study is conducted to improve the speaking skill of the ninth grade students at SMP Al HasaniahSerpong Utara, by using Communicative Language Teaching (CLT) methodology. The study uses qualitative approach. The qualitative data were obtained by observing the teaching and learning process during the implementation of the actions, interviewing and holding discussions with the English teacher and giving the questionnaire. The materials used by the teacher was from the student’s worksheet “BahasaInggrisuntuk SMP/MTs”. The classroom activities were pair-work conversations. From the result of the questionnaires, can be said that most students enjoy speaking through dialogues using CLT, because the teacher explains clearly and always gives opportunity to the students to express their ideas and opinions, It can be seen from the English score test of the students. Most of them got good score. Based on the result, it can be concluded that teaching speaking through dialogues using CLT can improve the students’ speaking skill.
