Abstract

This study is aimed to define the importance role of reader’s aesthetic response in interpreting literary work and to reveal the implied author’s thought toward the norm he belief in The Black Cat and The Tell-Tale Heart short stories. This study uses qualitative approach. It applies the reciprocal transaction between the reader and the text from Louise M. Rosenblatt, which aesthetic reading strategies is needed instead of the efferent reading; indeed, the implied author theory from Wayne C. Booth is also used to reveal the implied author’s belief. The result of this study shows that the reader is able to see the domination occur and involving his personal perspectives in interpreting literary work; moreover, the implied author also seen showing insanity in the story.
