Abstract

This thesis looks at how the movie Invictus by Clint Eastwood shows racial discrimination. It focuses on what the main characters, including Nelson Mandela, go through. The study wants to explain the different kinds of racial discrimination they face and how they handle their feelings during important parts of the story. Using Blank, Citro, and Dabaddy’s theory of racial discrimination, the study identifies Verbal antagonism, Avoidence, Segregation, and Physical attack as experienced by the characters and black people while they struggle to survive in life threatening situations. The qualitative method is used to analyze the film’s narrative and character actions. The findings reveal that racial discrimination greatly influences the main characters’ decisions and behaviors, especially when they are under extreme pressure. This study is expected to contribute to a deeper understanding of how racial discrimination issues are represented in film and to provide a useful reference for further research in literature.
