Abstract

This study examines the word formation processes and meanings employed by Mikha Tambayong in her Instagram captions. The study employed qualitative methods, adopting a descriptive qualitative approach. The results reveal that Mikha Tambayong dominant uses 18 compounding (45%) type of word formation identified, followed by 10 derivation (25%), after that 4 clipping (10%), 4 multiple process (10%), 2 acronym (5%), 1 blending (2%), and 1 borrowing (3%). These findings also identified 24 data of conceptual meaning and 16 data of associative meaning from a total of 40 data. The dominant meaning from this study is the conceptual meaning. Thus, this finding suggests that these word formations are important to conveying meaning in Mikha Tambayong’s account. This approach allows Mikha Tambayong to connect more authentically with her audience, making her content more relatable and enjoyable. Overall, the study highlights how caption on social media platforms is shaped by dynamic word formation processes, contributing to the evolving nature of online communication.
