Abstract

This study applied TED-Ed video transcript to examine the different sentence types used in the TED-Ed video. The study’s objectives were to analyze the types of sentences and to construct them into tree diagram. This study applied Oshima & Hogue’stheory (1998) to analyze types of sentences and Burton-Robert’s theory (2016) to construct the sentences into tree diagram. The methodology used in this study was qualitative method since the data were taken from a text-based transcript. Using Oshima & Hogue’s theory (1998), the analysis identified the sentence types through clauses. Following identification of sentence types, the sentences were constructed into tree diagram using Burton-Robert’s theory. The amount of data collected is 40 samples. The findings showed that complex sentences are mostly used in the video which showed 23 times and followed by simple sentences 13 times, then compound & compound-complex sentences 2 times for each.
