Abstract
The title of this study is “Jargon in Studentship Organization of Universitas Pamulang: A Sociolinguistic Study”. This study discussed jargon in studentship organization in Universitas Pamulang which was used by the two studentship organizations of Universitas Pamulang. The purposes of this study were to find out the form of studentship organization jargon and to know the function of studentship organization jargon used in the studentship organization of Universitas Pamulang. This study focused on Crystal’s theory (2004) to complete the analysis. The theory covers five jargon forms; acronyms, initialism, technical terms, neologisms, and clippings. Also, to figure out the functions of the jargon, the writer used Ives’s theory (2004). Qualitative research method was applied in this study to analyze the data and the data were taken from acronym, initialism, clipping, neologisms and technical terms that the two studentship organizations of Universitas Pamulang used. The results found that the function of studentship organization jargons that frequently used were the jargons to name the events, work groups, agendas, programs, and terminology. Then, there were 53 studentship organization jargons that are used by two of the studentship organizations of Universitas Pamulang. There were 25 jargons in acronym form, 23 jargons in initialism form, 4 jargons in clipping form, and 1 jargon in technical terms form.
