Abstract
This study aims to describe how racial discrimination toward a minority race is depicted in the Star Wars Novel: Thrawn (2017). It focuses on how racial discrimination affects the main character, Thrawn—who belongs to a minority race—and how he navigates this prejudice in his new workplace, where humans represent the majority race. The study applies the theory of racial discrimination by Delgado and Stefancic, as presented in their book Critical Race Theory: An Introduction–Third Edition (2017), as the primary framework for analysis. A descriptive qualitative method is used to examine the object of the study. The findings reveal six aspects of racial discrimination experienced by Thrawn: hate speech targeting his native language, hate speech based on physical appearance, restrictions on the use of his native language, negative social perceptions, physical violence, and the concept of ordinariness. The study also explores five ways in which Thrawn responds to racial discrimination: role flexing, rationalization, avoidance, non-violent resistance, and indirect resistance. The results show that, despite the challenges he faces as a member of a minority group, Thrawn demonstrates that individuals from marginalized backgrounds can achieve greatness through determination and resilience.
