Abstract

Pragmatics is one of linguistics studies that are very attractive to learn more about. The are many aspects of pragmatics, one of them is dealing with conversational implicature.This study investigates the types of conversational implicatures, the context and implicit meanings in the Flash Tv Seriesfrom 1st-24th episodes by Greg Berlanti, Andrew Kreisberg and Geoff Johns. The data were collected by identifying and analyzing utterances from conversations done by the main character in the tv series. Grice’s theory (1975) was used in analyzing the types and the theory of Alan Curse (2006) was used to analyse the context and to find out the implied meaning the writer uses the Theory of Grice (1969). The source of the data were taken from the flash tvseries’s script from the 1st episode-24th episodes. The uterances that contain implicatures were divided into two categories : generalized conversational implicature and particularized conversational implicature. As the result of the study, it was found that there are 26 particularised conversational implicatures and 14 generalized conversational implicatures from 40 utterances were taken. As the result, it can be concluded that every utterances has different context and each of the context influences the implied meaning.
