Abstract

This study aims to analyze the movement of women's empowerment in poetic literature as represented by the speakers or characters in the poems. The object of this research is Rebecca Tamás's poetry collection book entitled Witch (2019), but the object of this research focuses on three of Rebecca Tamás's poems, namely, Interrogation (1), Witch Europe, and Witch Sister. To limit the study of the women's empowerment movement, this research uses only the four concepts of the basic components of women's empowerment according to Marilee Karl (1995). The methodology used in this research is qualitative, this method was chosen to make it easier to analyze data in the form of intrinsic and extrinsic elements of poetry, and several elements that exist in poetry. The results obtained in this study found that in the three poems of Rebecca Tamás, namely “Interrogation (1)”, “Witch Europe”, and “Witch Sister”, there are four basic components in the women's empowerment movement, namely awareness building, capacity and skill development, participation and decision-making power, and taking action to achieve gender equality. These three poems illustrate how women symbolized as "witches" can achieve women's empowerment.
