Abstract
This research will analyze three songs lyrics of System of a Down the aim is to reveal the figurative language to comprehend more of the songs and get the real meaning that the songwriter tries to pictured. The five songs are “Chop Suey”, “Toxicity”, and “B.Y.O.B.” The writer highlight two problems in the research, those are: 1) what kind of figurative language that reveal in each song lyric and 2) what is the possible meaning of the lyrics. The method used in this study is descriptive. In the analysis, the writer uses the theory of lyric poetry and figurative language from Robert DiYanni, Frank Madden, Mario Kllarer and Zaenudin Fananie. After completing this research and put it in written form, the writer come to a conclusion that the figurative languages and its possible meanings from System of a Down are used as a medium of protests and critics, especially to US government.
