Abstract

This study presents a comprehension of psychology analysis which is limited in the analysis of the main character based on the characteristics and survival aspects. The aims of the study are to identify the individual characteristic based on psychoanalytic theory and survival aspects that appear in the main character of “Life of Pi” novel by Yann Martel. Besides, the writer would like to know more deeply about psychological changes in an individual when facing pressure to survive. Subsequently, the writer uses the psychoanalytic theory from Jess Fiest and Gregory J. Fiest (2008) and theory of survival psychology from John Leach (2004). As the result, the psychological analysis found in the main character is the personality development based on the motivation from unconscious mind to satisfy the curiosity and the act from the conscious mind to survive.
