Abstract

This study is titled "Syntactic Analysis of Phrase Structure Used by President Von Der Leyen at the Women's Political Leaders Summit Speech," This study aims to determine the phrases and phrase structures in President Von der Leyen's speech using Burton-Roberts' (2011) syntactic framework. A thematic qualitative method was used, and the analysis involved identifying phrases in the speech and illustrating their hierarchical formation through a tree diagram. The findings show that President Von der Leyen's speech contains five types of phrases, namely noun phrase (NP) with a result of 54.95%, verb phrase (VP) with a result of 19.78%, adjective phrase (AP) with a result of 5.49%, adverbial phrase (ADVP) with a result of 2.20%, and prepositional phrase (PP) with a result of 17.58%. Moreover, from the above results, noun phrases are the most dominant phrases among other phrases, with a result of 54.95%.
