Abstract
This study examines racial discrimination in the film The Six Triple Eight (2024). The purpose of this research is to identify the types of racial discrimination experienced by the main characters and analyze how they respond to and resist discrimination throughout the film. The data in this study consists of words, dialogues, actions, and scenes that depict racial discrimination against the Black women of the 6888th Central Postal Directory Battalion, an all-Black, all-female unit in the U.S. Army during World War II. This study employs a qualitative method and applies Theodorson's theory (1979) to categorize the types of racial discrimination present in the film. The findings indicate that the main characters experience color discrimination, social class discrimination. Despite their crucial role in organizing undelivered mail and boosting soldier morale, they face prejudice, segregation, and unequal treatment within the military. The film portrays their resilience and determination in overcoming these obstacles, highlighting the struggles of Black women in historical narratives. These results emphasize that racial discrimination in military history has long been overlooked, affecting individuals regardless of their service and dedication. Six Triple Eight serves as a powerful reminder of the challenges faced by Black women in war efforts and the need for recognition and equality.
