Abstract

This study is entitled “Trauma Experience in Resurrection Film Directed by Andrew Semans.” This research explains how trauma is depicted through the reactions experienced by the main character. The object of this research is a movie called Resurrection written and directed by Andrew Semans and released in 2022. The movie tells the story of Margaret, a successful career woman and a single parent who tries to maintain control over her life when her trauma arises from having to deal with her ex-boyfriend who behaved badly in the past. This research uses qualitative research methods to present the results of the research in the form of essays and images by analyzing the narrative and cinematographic elements in the films used. In addition, this research uses Cathy Caruth's trauma theory to categorize the trauma reactions shown by the main character. These reactions are disruption, hyperousal, avoidance, and denial. These trauma reactions are categorized based on how the main character responds to her trauma by having and experiencing bad thoughts, hypervigilance, worry, avoiding people, anxiety and also always having negative feelings. The results of the research show that the main character experiences four disorders due to the experience of trauma and always tries to overcome it by facing things related to her trauma, hiding her feelings, and also behaving unexpectedly.
