Abstract

This study aims to analyze the ethical and psychological egoism in one of Nathaniel Martello-White’s films, The Strays (2023). The film is about a biracial woman called Cherlyn/Neve who is never satisfied with what she has. This study is entitled “Egoism of The Main Character in The Strays (2023) Film”. This study applied qualitative methods under the theory of Rachel (2003) in his book “The Elements of Moral Philosophy” (2003) as the main reference of the discussion. Through this study, it was found that there are two types of egoism: Ethical and Psychological Egoism. The main character has instant satisfaction and is often blindly aware of how an individual’s desire for self-improvement and personal advancement can sometimes come at the expense of empathy, compassion, and consideration for others.
