Abstract

ABSTRACT This study presents a comprehension of pragmatic analysis which is limited to analyze the use of politeness strategies in dialogues of a literary work film entitled “Captain America 2 – The Winter Soldier Movie”. The goals of the study are to describe Tact and Agreement Maxims employed in the conversations of the film and to determine what scales of politeness degree based on Leech. Besides, the writer would like to learn about politeness in order to avoid impoliteness in a daily interaction. The writer uses a qualitative method to describe this study. Then she uses a theory from Leech( 1983 ) about Tact, Agreement maxim and scales of degree of politeness, and Lakoff (in Eelen : 2001) about rules of politeness scale in analyzing the data. As the result, the politeness strategies especially Tact and Agreement maxis occurred in this action movie with various kinds of scale of politeness degree employed. This study can be as one of reference in a pragmatic study. Keywords: Pragmatics, Politeness Strategy, Qualitative, Dialogue.
