Abstract

The aim of this study is to analyze psychological problems of Humbert character as a pedophile in Lolita novel by Vladimir Nabokov. This study reflects Psychology that meet Literature analysis. The writer used descriptive qualitative approach and library research during the research to gain some information, both main sources and other sources that support the topic. The objectives of this thesis are to describe the cause, diagnostic criteria, characteristics and types of pedophile of the main character, Humbert. As a guidance, the writer adopt psychological theory from Mayer (1985) and a guidance from American Psychiatric Association. The result of the study shows that Humbert is described as a pedophile who has unresolved memories from past. He also has some characteristics as pedophile like internal conflict against himself. Regressed pedophile is found in Humbert’s psychological condition in order to satisfy his desire towards Lolita Keywords: Literature, Novel, Pedophile, Character, Psychology, Qualitative.
