Abstract
The study titled Post-Traumatic Stress Disorder in Adam Silvera's Novel More Happy Than Not examined the post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD) experienced by the main character, Aaron Soto, following his father's tragic death. Using Cathy Caruth's (1995) Traumatic Experience theory, this study aims to analyze the manifestation of post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD) and how the protagonist overcomes his traumatic experiences. The research methodology uses a qualitative approach, utilizing both primary data from the novel’s text and secondary data from various literature sources related to PTSD and literary theory. The analysis demonstrates that Aaron's PTSD manifests through a range of symptoms, including traumatic flashbacks, nightmares, self-harm, self-blame, and attempts to erase traumatic memories. Over time, Aaron has developed a variety of coping mechanisms, progressing from avoidance strategies to more positive ones through the support and acceptance of his social environment. This study aims to improve the reader's understanding of how Post-traumatic stress disorder and mental disorders can arise from traumatic experiences.
