Abstract

The thesis, hereinafter referred to as this study, aims to critically analyze the depiction of self-actualization and reveal the characteristics of the main character who has succeeded in achieving self-actualization in Jessica Jung’s novel Bright (2022). To realize this goal, this study applies the theory of human motivation (1970) by Abraham Harold Maslow. Furthermore, this study uses a qualitative descriptive method since the issue discussed is in a literary work without statistical forms. Based on the comprehensive analysis conducted by the writer, the results show that the main character has managed to fulfill all fundamental needs up to the highest need, self-actualization, despite experiencing unexpected occurrences, making her capable of being an all-rounder who can perform her work as a fashion designer and solo singer by deploying all her potential, and reflects eight of the fifteen characteristics of a self-actualized person with her own uniqueness, proving that she has succeeded in becoming fully human
