Abstract

The aim of this study is to describe the process of teaching and learning one of language skills, reading, in kindergarten level to help young learners to experience a suitable practices in learning reading. Phonics Letters Sounds is one of the methods of Teaching Reading of language. Phonics Letters Sounds is introduced, taught, learnt, and practiced by children since they enter learning phase especially in kindergarten ages. Through qualitative method, the writer presented the collected data and materials from the observation. In this study, the writer analyzed the materials and the activities in teaching phonics letters sounds through whole language. The varieties of the materials from Montessori and the activities provided are good option to attract children attention in learning, so that they would not get bored in practicing their reading skill. The writer also discovered the result of teaching phonics letters sounds through whole language in the kindergarten level. Through whole language method, children are ready to continue practicing their reading skill by using Phonics during reading activities.
