Abstract

This study discussesa pragmatics analysis which is limited to the use of politeness strategies in the dialogues “The Land of Five Towers” novel. The goals of this study are to identify the politeness strategies and to know the factors that influence the politeness strategies in the dialogues of that novel. The writer uses qualitative method to describe this study. Then, the writer uses a theory from Brown and Levinson (1978) in analyzing the data. As the result, the politeness strategies which are found in the dialogues of that novel are bald on record, positive politeness, negative politeness, and off record.
