Abstract

The aim of this study is to analyze reader-response criticism in graphic novel written by MarjaneSatrapi entitled Persepolis. It is a form of literary criticism which depends on the reader’s response to the text and the writer categories respondents’ responses based on Rosenblatt’s theories. The writer uses qualitative method to analyze the study. Moreover, the data are collected from four respondents who was chosen by the writer purposive sampling. The writer uses the theory of reader-response criticism by Rosenblatt as the major theory.In this study the writer found out four respondentsuse their past experiences to critic the literary after read Persepolis graphic novel and as a result, they linked literature to their lives creating a text. After analysethe response, the writer found out that readers’ attention centered directly on what he or she is living through during his relationship with that particular text is aesthetic term in Rosenblatt theory Keyword : Rossenblatt, reader-response criticism, aesthetic, graphic novel, Persepolis
