Abstract

The aim of this study is to analyze the main character in “Gone Girl” film as the character that has psychopathic problems. This study is a part of literary criticism, because it discusses psychological criticism. Psychopathic problem viewed from Sigmund Freud’s psychoanalysis concepts is used as the theoretical framework of the research. Qualitative method is used to analyze the data in this study because most data describe about the main character from psychological aspect. Through the observation of scenes and dialogues taken from film, Amy characterization as the main character of “Gone Girl” film reveals the specific psychopathic character and the causes. From the review of the study, Id dominates in the main character’s minds that signed Amy as psychopath, they are: manipulative, lack of guilty feeling, liar, self-injure, and misinterpretation of relationship. From psychoanalysis can be seen that the cause is her imperfect psychosexual development and the factors of her psychopath problems are her parents and her relationship with Nick.This study may be useful for the next writer especially English Department students who are interested in conducting study on psychopath analysis in Gillian Flynn “Gone Girl” film.
