Abstract
This thesis which is entitled “Register Analysis in the Garment Industry at PT. PancaprimaEkabrothers” has some aspects to analyze registers that are as part of study of sociolinguistics. The purposes of this study are to identify the register characteristics, kinds, meanings, and functions in the garment industry, specifically at PT. PancaprimaEkabrothers. The writer used the qualitative in the study, and the source of the data were taken from e-mails, catalogues, and sheet forms that are found at PT. PancaprimaEkabrothers. The theories used to analyze are Biber and Finegan (1994) as well as Halliday (1989). The finding data are 30 data which have the kinds as Closed Register and More Open Register. The characteristics of register are influenced by the linguistics features such as noun, phrase, sentence, and jargon in the analysis of the study. To identify the meanings are used a garment code catalogue that used by the garment industry, especially PT. PancaprimaEkabrothers. The meanings are very specific for garment people, and common people are not really clear to understand. The register terms found in the garment industry having the functions, they are to persuade, to inform/to transfer information, to entertain (edify), and reveal self. The writer found the functions above in the garment industry at PT. PancaprimaEkabrothers. Keywords : registers, register analysis, garment industry
