Abstract

This thesis entitled “Prejudice and Discrimination toward Racial Minority in To Kill a Mockingbird Novel by Harper Lee”. The study was aimed to give the description of analysis about social problem trough sociological criticism, to explain the racial minority in society by giving the characteristics which belong to, to see how the society judges the racial minority regarding to prejudice and how the society acts to discriminate racial minority. The objects of this study are texts and dialogues in novel To Kill a Mockingbird by Harper Lee. Since the data of the objects are presented in form of texts and the results are explained in form of essays, the qualitative method is used to analyze the objects. The theory from Wagley and Harris, and Kornblum and Julian are chosen as the theoretical framework of the study. As the result of the study, it is found that racial minority in this society is Black people, Black people take role as racial minority so they receive the judgment regarding the prejudice. These black people also receive the acts of discrimination of the society. Keywords: sociological criticism, novel, racial minority, prejudice, discrimination
