Abstract

This study aims to examine the types of Turn-Taking strategies used by Piers Morgan and Andrew Tate, to observe the manifestation of power dynamics in Turn-Taking strategy used by Piers Morgan and Andrew Tate. This study based on Harvey Sacks, Emanuel A. Schegloff, and Gail Jefferson theory of Turn-Taking Strategies (1974). The object of the study used is video interview between Piers Stefan Pughe-Morgan (Piers Morgan) and Emory Andrew Tate III (Andrew Tate) in Piers Morgan Uncensored YouTube channel. The study used descriptive qualitative method to present the topic thoroughly. Based on the findings, the result is, 1160 of the total strategies used. 1057 strategies were identified for Taking the Floor, categorized into several sub-strategies: 18 strategies for Starting Up, 596 for Taking Over, 30 for Cooperative Interruption, 86 for Intrusive Interruptions, 44 for Unsuccessful Interruptions, 52 for Holding the Floor, and 51 for Yielding the Floor. The analysis also reveals that Piers Morgan is the dominant speaker, while Andrew Tate is a submissive yet assertive speaker.
