Abstract

This research aims to analyze and explain the types and the reasons for code-mixing by a YouTuber named Xaviera Putri in a YouTube video titled “Besar di Korea dari SMA.. Ini Yang Aku Pelajari..” The study uses a descriptive qualitative method, presenting the analysis in the form of written descriptions and tables. Hoffman's (1991) theory is used to analyze the data. A total of 56 data were identified based on the classification of types and reasons for code-mixing. Among the types of code-mixing, 38 instances of intra-sentential code-mixing, 9 data of intra-lexical code-mixing, and 9 data involving changes in pronunciation were found. On the other hand, for the reasons of using code mixing, it was found that the speaker used 6 out of 7 reasons which such as talking about a particular topic, interjection, expressing group identity, repetition used for clarification, being about something, and intention to clarify speech for the interlocutor.
