Abstract

This study aimed to analyze the oppression received by the protagonist Kiara in the novel Nightcrawling (2022) by Leila Mottley. The topic was selected due to the oppression that Black women still experience. The analysis focused on the oppression encountered by the main character in Leila Mottley's Nightcrawling and her deals with this oppression. The study utilized Patricia Hill Collins's Black Feminist Thought and Irish Marion Young's Five Faces of Oppression. It adopted a descriptive qualitative method to collect data in sentences, actions, and narratives about the main character's oppression. In this study, the writer discovered that the main character faced four types of oppression: Marginalization, Powerlessness, Sexual Violence, and Exploitation. Moreover, the writer identified the main character deals with oppression such as poverty and economic instability, emotional turmoil, and her struggle against oppression by becoming a key witness.
