Abstract

This study aims to explain the phenomenon of code-mixing as it is employed by speakers in the CXO Media Podcast Channel's episode titled "Switching Perspective to Find Joy in Life" (Episode 80). The study specifically identify the types and reasons of using code-mixing in the dialogue used by the speakers. A descriptive qualitative approach is used for this study. Data are collected from the instances of code-mixing in the podcast episode and analyzed using Hoffman's (1991) theoretical framework to determine the types and reasons of using code-mixing. There are 38 utterances that the writer collected to identify types and reasons of Code-Mixing. From the data utterances found there are 35 Intra-Setential Code-Mixing in total and 4 Intra-Lexical Code-Mixing. Meanwhile, there are 5 reasons found in the data utterances, that are Talking about a Particular Topic, Being Emphatic about Something, Interjection, Repetation used for Clarification, Express Group Identity, and Quoting Someone Else Keywords: Code-Mixing, Linguistics, Podcast, Sociolinguistics.
