Abstract
This study analyzed the racial discrimination toward Palestinians in the novel ‘The Blue Between Sky and Water’ by Susan Abulhawa. This study aimed to analyze racial discrimination represented in the novel and how the protagonist deals with it. The object of this study was a literary work, such as a novel by Susan Abulhawa entitled The Blue Between Sky and Water, published in 2015. The novel was about a brave Baraka family, love, and Palestine. In 1948, Israel arrived in Beit Daras and was controlled by committing murders, massacres, bombings, and forcing Palestinians to leave their homes. Thus, they became refugees in the Gaza Strip for generations under discrimination, blockades, the apartheid system, and oppression. This study used a qualitative approach, as proposed by Creswell (2014), to produce a clear and detailed picture of the racial discrimination in the novel. This study used the theory of discrimination by Theodorson and Theodorson (1979). The results of this study showed that racial discrimination occurred directly and indirectly, such as rape, murder, and the implementation of the apartheid system, as well as a depiction of the Palestinian family in dealing with racial discrimination, including surrender, rejection, and resistance. Keywords: abulhawa, apartheid, nakba, palestine, racial discrimination
