Abstract

This study discusses teaching reading using phonics through cooperative language learning to kindergarten students. The reason of this study was conducted is because reading is one of the basic important English skills. In analyzing the data, the qualitative reasearch which was done by doing the observations and interview the teacher to describe the process of teaching and learning reading in the classroom. As stated by Creswell (2013) “qualitative research is an approach for exploring and understanding the meaning individuals or groups ascribe to a social or human problem. The process of research involves emerging questions and procedures, data typically collected in the participant’s setting, data analysis inductively building from particulars to general themes, and the researcher making interpretations of the meaning of the data. The final written report has a flexible structure”. The result of the study taken from the sample respondents of Kindergarten students of Ladybird pre-school BSD shows how phonics method can help the kindergarten students to learn reading skill in a fun learning process.
