Abstract

The aims of this study are to classify slang expressions into some types by classifyingslang words or phrases in the dialogues of “We’re The Millers” film, and to analyze the meaning of each slang words or phrases. Techniques that are used in this study are: collecting, classifying, analyzing and interpreting the data by describing the collected data. The writer uses descriptive qualitative method, that she describes the type and meaning of slang words or phrases. The result of the study dealt with 5 types of slang expressions, such as: Cockney, Public House, Society, Public School and University, and Workmen’s. To support the analysis she uses slang dictionary or other related references. The conclusion of the study concerning the function of slang that is used by certain communities to define themselves in society and how it influences people’s communication as it keeps changing by the time and generation.
