Abstract

The title of this study is “AN ANALYSIS OF MAXIM VIOLATION IN “ITAZURA NA KISS COMIC “.This study deals with a pragmatic approach limited to maxim violation and focused on Grice’s theory. The study aims at giving a knowledge to reader about maxim violation that occurs during the conversation. It is conducted to find out the maxim violation and the purpose of doing violation. The writer takes the data from “ITAZURA NA KISS” comic and uses qualitative descriptive method in this study. The writer uses several steps to analyze the data, they are: finding the source, selecting the comic, reciting the comic,determining the particular conversation, identifying the categories of maxim violation, and analyzing the type and purpose of maxim violation. From the study the writer found 40 violations of maxim. It consists of 11 violations of maxim quantity, 6 violations of maxim relevance and 23 viola tions of maxim manner. However maxim quality is not found in the conversation. Key words: Pragmatic, maxim, comic, violation.
