Abstract

The purpose of this research is to analyse the implied statements of conversational implicature, found in utterances or dialogues in “Hello, Gorgeous!” novel. This study also aims at classifying the kinds of conversational implicature found in the novel. The writer used Grice’s theory in analysing the conversational implicature found in the dialogues of the character in the novel. In conducting this abstract, the writer used qualitative method to collect the data. The data in this research were collected by reading the novel and taking notes on the dialogues regarded as the conversational implicature. From the data analysis, there are 26 data found on conversational implicature. Out of 26 data, eight data are categorized as generalized conversational implicature and eighteen data are particularized conversational implicature. These data have the implied meaning based on the context of the dialogues. Keywords: Pragmatics, Conversational Implicature, H.P Grice, Generalized Implicature dan Particularized Implicature.
