Abstract

are faced by the main character in Vikas Swarup’s “Q & A” novel. In this study, the writer usessociology of literature to analyze the novel.Theoryfrom Barkan and Ahujaare used to analyze the social problems, while the theory fromNurgiyantoro is used to analyze the conflicts. In collecting the data, the writer reads the novel several times, then selects, identifies, and classifies the data. Qualitative method is used in conducting this study. Therefore, the results are in the form of essay. The writer finds that there are many social problems that occur in the novel, some of them are poverty, violence against women, child abuse, and alcoholism. The writer also finds the conflicts that are faced by the main character; internal conflict and external conflict. Internal conflict including sadness, hypocrisy, curiousity, and fear of the main character. While the external conflict including person vs person and person vs society.
