Abstract
This research is entitled "YouTube Video British Vogue: Emma Watsons Talks Turning 30th with Meryl Streep", which aims to observe the types of politeness strategies used by Emma Watson and Meryl Streep and to find out the factors that influence Emma Watsons and Meryl Streep in using politeness strategies in the British Vogue interpreted by the types of politeness strategies by Brown & Levinson's (1987) theory. The object of this study is "YouTube Video British Vogue: Emma Watson's Talks Turning 30th with Meryl Streep (2021)". The writer used a descriptive qualitative research method to understand the topic thoroughly. Based on the analysis, the result is that 15 were positive, 7 were negative, 8 were off- record, and 10 were bald-on-record. The writer found several factors influencing these politeness strategies: social distance, 18 data, relative power 12 data, and the rank of imposition 10 data. The most frequently used type of politeness strategy is Positive Politeness, accounting for 15 data. The primary factor influencing politeness strategies is Social Distance for 18 data.
