Abstract

This study aims to provide an explanation of the types and the reasons for code-mixing used by a speaker named Viancqa in one of her YouTube videos entitled "proses kuliah di Inggris 2020 | nonton dulu sebelum apply ke universitas di UK.” This study uses a descriptive qualitative method that presents analysis in table and written form. To conduct this research, Hoffman's (1991) theory regarding the types and reasons for using code-mixing was used. There are 43 data found in this study. For the types of code-mixing, 32 data were found for intra-sentential code-mixing, 9 data for inter-lexical code-mixing, and 2 data for involving changes in pronunciation. On the other hand, for the reasons of using code-mixing, it was found that the speaker used 7 out of 5 reasons which included talking about a particular topic, quoting someone else, interjection, repetition used for clarification, and intention of clarifying the speech content for the interlocutor.
